Facebook women/men ratio

No matter what your social networking purposes are, in the end it all comes down to the quality of the people you find in your network. And Facebook seems to have done a good job about it. At least for those who think that having a lot of girls is a good signal about users’ trust in the network.

We already know about the high truliness of Facebook profiles: most of them have real name/last name info and, therefore, real pics, real friends, real information. What we didn’t know is that you can find more women than men in there (as the following data show). Which is a very rare thing. And this is the best signal about how people trust a network.

Ever tried signing up on Badoo as a woman, maybe with a picture showing how good looking you are (no matter if you’re a boy)? You’ll get up to 100 messages a day - read “spam” - from arassed boys telling you how good looking you are. Ok, it may be good for your self esteem, but if you want to inquiry about the percentage of fake profiles out there this is a good clue: not many girls will be wanting to handle hundreds of spam messages a day.

If these data are confirmed, this means that Facebook succeeded where others (Badoo and many more) failed: putting up a network based on trust, which accidentally ends up attracting many beautiful girls (with real profiles)!

  3. MySpace and Friendster’s initial audience was females. Not how it was planned, but it’s just natural for females to gravitate towards this type of tech first.. from there its obvious guys follow.

I think you could do a similar study about up and coming technologies like Seesmic or Sleep.FM. Communication technologies that bring us closer to each other and where sharing emotions is key.
