First of all, bipolar2, speak your mind and get off the fence. Why would you not want an iPhone? You are just saying about their marketing. Marketing has really nothing to deal with the question.
As for me, my answer was No, and my reasoning is extraordinarily simple.
First of all, without going into the field of marketing, I do feel that the phone rehashes technologies I have seen in other phone solutions. Yes, they placed it in a pretty package with a nifty dual-touch screen. (two fingers only. Multi-touch is a misnomer.) But, my previous phone played music, accessed internet in browser mode, (not mobile web access page mode) and all within a good $200 price tag.
Next, I really do not like having to change providers. Being forced to use one particular service creates a form of a monopolistic issue. Let it open. If people want to use other providers, let them. Yes, they will not have all the nifty features such as visual voicemail, but make that a perk of using the one provider’s service.
Next issue I have is, I do not like being locked to an “Approved” set of applications to install into my phone. Yes, there is a large list of applications out there for the iPhone, but there are some quirky ones that I use that are not available. Also, I like variety.
And, this could be attached to the previous point, but I really, Safari? I need to attach to a webmail service that is provided by my company, and it is not compatible with Safari. At present, I have not seen any alternate browsers, and I doubt that will be the issue in the very near future, but at present, that is a severe no-go.
Another point to look at, the Cliche. Sorry to say, if it is Apple, it doesn’t always mean it is the technogeek gadget of the century. Yes, they make nice products, but are they always practical? I would defer my answer, but the reality is, not for me. (Note, I mean ME only) Just giving my reason as to why I do not see myself getting it anytime soon.

marketing is unutterably excremental, also unspeakably extra-mental. but pin worms are life forms too.
