Facebook no longer for free? No way.

Going premium is a temptation for every community. Meetic and other dating sites have set the standard. After them, everyone have tried it at some point, and some of them came back recently with great satisfaction, NYT and Hot or Not being the most famous examples.
Now it seems the time of Facebook has come: according to an insider we talked to, Zuckenberg & Co. are evaluating a fee-based model. Call it premium or call it “freemium” (as marketers like to put it these days) things don’t change a bit.
Some so called “premium” features will no longer be for free: we’ll have to pay. This means we’ll be able to go on using just a limited version of Facebook for free, the rest will be off limits unless we pay. Most likely features to go on sale are said to be: Groups, Marketplace and all possibly revenue generating features. Along with all spam generating third party apps.
No secret YouTube itself is struggling to give some advertisement-based return to its stakeholders (Sergei and Larry), therefore Facebook may be facing the same problems. But will this be a solution? Will it generate more revenues or just shrink the user base?
At TagMarketer we’ve always believed in free internet, and Chris Anderson upcoming work is stressing this concept. This is why we’re raising up against this new Facebook move, will you do the same?

Please, it’s the only way for to take free the site. If you turn on payment facebook go died…

If Facebook do such a thing, they’re going to piss a lot of people off. They’re going to drive their site into the ground pretty much. If you charge someone for something they’ve been using for free for a little bit of time, they won’t want to pay.

There is obviously a lot to know about this. I think you made some good points in Features also.

I love online dating. It’s been taking up all my time though! I suppose that’s better than having nothing to do though!
