Firefox…WE did it! We set a new Social World Record
By Guidonova on Jul 3, 2008 in Miscellaneous, Social Marketing
Mozilla yesterday (2nd July 2008) announced it set a new Guinness World Record for the largest number of software downloads in 24 hours. The record-setting 8,002,530 downloads coincided with the launch of Firefox® 3, Mozilla’s major update to its popular and acclaimed free, open source Web browser.

“The enthusiasm and creativity of Firefox fans was instrumental in achieving this record,” said Paul Kim, VP of Marketing at Mozilla. “Our community members came together and not only spread the word, but also took the initiative to help mobilize millions of people to demonstrate their belief that Firefox gives people the best possible online experience.”
“As the arbiter and recorder of the world’s amazing facts, Guinness World Records is pleased to add Mozilla’s achievement to our archives,” said Gareth Deaves, Records Manager for Guinness World Records. “Mobilizing over 8 million internet users within 24 hours is an extremely impressive accomplishment and we would like to congratulate the Mozilla community for their hard work and dedication.”

Deon,
there is a known bug with old versions of quicktime, and new versions of firefox (see https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=430826 ) which results in a regular crash - there are also many security issues fixed with new versions of QT. I believe the fix for QT crashing FF 3 is to upgrade QT.

No Firefox 3 for me, it’s slow, buggy, and the location bar is terrible, not to mention 1/2 of my carefully culled addons don’t work.
Like McDonalds’…. over 4 gazillion served…. only 1 gazillion kept down.
I went back to 2.015 and it works just fine.
FF3 = Vista as far as I ‘m concerned…
much ado about minor improvements, but major functionality compromised.

WE DID DO IT!! anyway, since everyone up there is griping about why it sux already, I’d like to join the discussion by saying that on OSX it’s stable as london bridge, but on my linux box it crashes on the order of once every two days. Keep in mind though that this is down from once every 2 hours when it was in beta 5, so it’s a pretty groovy improvement nonetheless.

Firefox3 crashing on linux is most likely because of flash, not Firefox.
